Overview of Sungrow’s Battery Models
Sungrow offers two principal battery models within Australia: the SBR and SBH series. These systems are engineered to address diverse energy storage requirements, encompassing residential installations and small commercial applications. The ensuing analysis delineates the attributes and distinctions of these battery systems to assist in identifying the optimal solution for individual needs.
SBR Series
The SBR series is a modular battery system featuring individual battery modules with a usable capacity of 3.2 kWh. Key specifications of the series are as follows:
- Capacity Range: The system commences with a minimum capacity of 6.2 kWh, necessitating at least two 3.2 kWh modules. This capacity can be incrementally expanded in 3.2 kWh modules to achieve a maximum capacity of 25.6 kWh.
- DC-Connected Design: These batteries must be integrated with a Sungrow hybrid inverter to function. While this is advantageous for initial installations involving solar panels and batteries, it may incur additional costs for retrofitting to existing solar systems.
- Depth of Discharge (DoD): The series offers a DoD of 100%, facilitating complete utilization of the battery’s storage capacity. This figure is notably high, as typical DoD ratings for batteries range between 70% and 100%.
- Installation Flexibility: The system is IP55 rated, rendering it suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation environments.
- Ease of Installation: Each module weighs approximately 25 kilograms, allowing for potential installation by a single individual.
SBH Series
The SBH series caters to larger energy storage requirements, making it appropriate for extensive residential installations or small-scale commercial applications. The features of this series include:
- Capacity Range: The SBH series begins with a minimum configuration of 10 kWh, comprising two 5 kWh modules. This capacity is expandable in increments to achieve a maximum storage capacity of 40 kWh.
- Stackable Design: Similar to the SBR series, this system employs a modular stackable structure. However, each module weighs 45 kilograms, necessitating installation by a team of professionals.
- Depth of Discharge (DoD): The SBH series also offers a DoD of 100%, ensuring optimal utilization of its storage capacity.
- Environmental Rating: The system is IP55 rated, permitting both indoor and outdoor installations.
- Performance for Commercial Applications: Each module is capable of continuous charge and discharge at 50A or 3.54 kW, facilitating the rapid discharge of stored energy within a duration of under two hours—a critical attribute for commercial use cases.
Determining the Suitable Battery Model
The selection between the SBR and SBH series should be guided by specific energy storage requirements and installation conditions:
- Residential Applications: The SBR series is particularly suited for standard residential setups, offering flexibility in capacity upgrades and ease of installation.
- Commercial or Extensive Residential Needs: The SBH series is ideal for larger installations due to its expanded capacity range and capabilities for rapid energy discharge.
- Installation Considerations: For smaller setups or scenarios necessitating single-person installation, the SBR series is more practical due to its lighter battery modules. Contrastingly, the SBH series is preferable for larger systems requiring team-based installation efforts.
